2F have spent time thinking about ourselves as global citizens.
We discussed our favourite chocolate bars and then researched the cocoa plantations in Ghana. We discovered that many children in Ghana work on the plantations in difficult conditions, as well as go to school. We compared this to the lives of children in the U.K and spoke of the laws in place to protect children from working too much.
We used our debating skills to argue for children working on plantations and against it. After our debate, all the pupils appreciated that the child workers in Ghana had to work to help support their families to do the basic things to stay alive - eat, drink and have shelter. We looked at 'Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs' to support our understanding of what is essential for life.
