Jean Haigh

Chair of the Governing Board

Jean’s career has been in education as a teacher and working for local authorities and latterly the Department for Education as one of their Specialist Advisers for Special Educational Needs.  Jean worked as Head of SEN and Disability in East Sussex and led the South East 7 (SE7) work on the SEND reforms. After her retirement she was invited to join the boards of two East Sussex special school multi-academy trusts.  Jean is currently a Director of the Torfield and Saxon Mount Academy Trust (TaSMAT).  She is deeply committed to improving the life chances of children and young people with special needs and disabilities.  As Chair of the Board of Trustees of St Mary’s, it is Jean’s role to ensure that the right support is in place to allow St Mary’s to make the rapid improvement that is needed.  This is so that each one of our current and future pupils have the education and support they deserve to enable them to have as happy and successful adult lives as possible.
